Weekend Outlook for September 10-12, 2010

Severe Weather

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across the central Plains and mid-MS valley. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop by late afternoon from northwest MO into east-central KS and possibly southward into northern OK. Large hail will be possible, especially across eastern KS, as well as a few tornadoes. Damaging winds will then become the primary threat by the evening and the severe threat will diminish overnight. 

Excessive Rainfall

There is a moderate risk of flash flooding from southeast KS into west-central MO and a slight risk from far northeastern OK, southeastern KS, and western MO. 

Tropical Weather

Tropical Depression Igor is expected to regain tropical storm strength later today over the far eastern Atlantic.

Saturday

There are no severe thunderstorm areas forecast, but some thunderstorms will occur. Showers and scattered thunderstorms are anticipated to develop during the afternoon across the lower and mid OH, mid-MS, and TN valleys. A few stronger storms may be capable of producing small hail and/or gusty winds. 

Sunday

There are no severe thunderstorm areas forecast, but some thunderstorms will occur across the southeast U.S. An eastward propagating cold front will be the focus of scattered showers across the southeast during the afternoon and evening with the possibility of some small hail and/or gusty winds.
