Weekend Outlook for July 30-August 1, 2010

Severe Weather

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across portions of the lower and middle MO valley. A broad area of thunderstorms will affect IA throughout the morning hours and will continue to propagate eastward and weaken by the afternoon. New thunderstorm development will occur in the wake of this convection during the afternoon and evening hours with the possibility of some large hail and damaging winds. A cluster of thunderstorms are also ongoing across southeastern WA into the ID panhandle this morning and will continue to propagate northeastward throughout the rest of the day with the possibility of more thunderstorms initiating over ID and western MT. Additional thunderstorms are forecast during the afternoon into the evening across the eastern Dakotas into the upper MS valley.

There is a slight risk of flash flooding across the lower MO river valley and east-central ND.

Severe Weather

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms from the northern Rockies into the northern High Plains. Thunderstorms will form over the higher terrain by the afternoon and propagate eastward into the High Plains during the evening. Other storm development will occur into the western and central Dakotas overnight. Isolated damaging winds and large hail will be the main threats. Additional thunderstorms are expected from the Great Lakes through the OH valley and across the southeastern States during the afternoon and evening.

Severe Weather

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across the Dakotas, western MN, and northern NE. Morning thunderstorms will most likely be ongoing from the eastern Dakotas into the upper MS valley and will shift eastward during the day. New thunderstorm development will occur in the wake of the morning convection and will linger into the evening hours. These storms will be capable of producing large hail and a few tornadoes, especially across the eastern Dakotas and western MN. Additional thunderstorms are forecast from the Carolinas through the Mid-Atlantic region during the afternoon with the potential of isolated damaging wind and hail threats.
