Radar Mosaics
Superior Level II Radar Data
Providing the Highest Quality Radar Data in the Weather Business
WDT ingests all of the 136 Level II radars available (8 radars remain Level III only) utilizing the notably high resolution and precision of Level II radar data to provide superior products. WDT utilizes the remaining 8 Level II radars, to fill data-void areas of the CONUS mosaic.
In partnership with the National Severe Storms Laboratory we both have the experience and expertise to offer the most complete quality control of radar data and create the highest spatial (1km) and temporal resolution (2 minute update) national radar mosaic using cutting edge techniques to quality control and merge data from multiple radars.
WDT’s Radar Mosaic is the most powerful in the business:
- Only mosaic available using NEXRAD Level II data (128 colors vs. 15 with other mosaics)
- Precip type (rain, snow, mix)
- 1 by 1 km resolution
- Every 5 minutes
- High quality Radar QC
- Virtual volumes mean rapid update and always the latest data
- Spherical interpolation means smooth/consistent analysis
- Time/Distance weighting
WDT has been providing Level II data to our clients since 2001, through a program called “iRADS” at the University of Oklahoma. iRADS operates a 24/7 manned fully-redundant data center that guarantees Level II data from all CONUS radar with less than a 10-second delay.
