Mesoscale Forecasting Decision Support System

Weather Solutions for Global Governments and Organizations

Governments and professional organizations worldwide need to access global data from the macro- to the micro-scale for a wide variety of advanced, automated decision support systems.

WDT has developed a turnkey mesoscale numerical weather prediction system that can be customized to a client’s particular operational needs to provide detailed guidance for meteorologists and as input to other automated decision support systems.

Features of the MesoDSS system include:

  • Numerical prediction using the state-of-the-science Advanced Research version of the Weather Research and Forecast model, customized for operational applications and optimized for performance by WDT’s staff of NWP experts.
  • Multiple options for advanced data assimilation, including WDT’s unique capability to assimilate imagery from geostationary weather satellites as well as three-dimensional radar mosaics.  Combined with Four Dimensional Data Assimilation, this provides a powerful and accurate capability for rapidly updating forecasts.
  • WDT’s WRF Management Portal, which allows the meteorological staff to control configuration of the model via an intuitive, user-friendly interface, including the size, location, and resolution of the grids, forecast length, run schedule, and processor utilization.  Additionally, the Portal provides full monitoring of the modeling system and high-performance computing cluster
  • WDT’s proprietary model post-processor which provides a highly configurable capability to apply advanced algorithms to the model output as well as provide standard output formats (GRIB) for integration into virtually any meteorological display system.
  • The system runs on Linux clusters designed and integrated by WDT, sized to the customer’s needs, to provide a scalable, robust solution that provides extreme reliability by minimizing single points of failure.
