Geographic Information Systems

Utility, energy, transportation, outdoor recreation, municipal governments, state governments and many other industries utilize weather information in their daily planning and risk management activities and in doing so, have transitioned to GIS-based Systems. This allows mapping and management of all assets (power lines, pipelines, location of customers, etc.) in one system.

  • WDT offers radar data, lightning data, nowcasting (0-6 hour predictions) of precipitation and severe weather events and other mission-critical data, overlaid on your assets in your existing GIS.
  • Receive vital GIS information in your desired format (shape files, ESRI grid, ASCII)
  • View precipitation data using our high resolution radar mosaic
  • Analyse USPLN lightning data integrated into other GIS-compatible data formats
  • Access tropical storm datasets

GIS Weather

WDT provides fully GIS-compatible data, industry standard mechanisms to access the data, and data that is pleasing to the user’s eye. Already an ESRI business partner, WDT’s GIS content is certified to be fully ESRI GIS compliant.

GIS Hydromet

WDT produces a high resolution (1km) radar mosaic that is updated every 5 minutes using high precision level-II NEXRAD data from 134 radars across the US.

GIS Lightning

Derived from the United States Precision Lightning Network (USPLN), WDT routinely provides lightning stroke data which include the date, time, latitude and longitude of occurrence as well as amplitude and polarity for each identified stroke.

GIS Tropical

WDT routinely provides tropical storm tracks (past and forecast tracks) as well as wind radii data in point, polyline and polygon shapefile formats. These products are updated every 3 or 6 hours when a tropical storm is present.
